SYNOPSIS
Young
and athletic Sydney Harris (Kathleen Benner) finds out that she has six
months to live unless she and her husband (Jose Rosete) can come up with
the money for her medical treatment. Sounds simple enough; get the
money, save her life. But her underpaid, working class husband
can’t afford the treatment. And time is ticking away.
|
As
Sydney begins to seek out a means to save her life, she begins to
question her existence and does some soul searching, only to find
herself falling in love with a single mom (Rachel Owens) in the
neighborhood that Sydney and her family have just moved into.
Sydney
is then forced to choose between her religious upbringing, her husband
and son, and a love that she hides, all while fighting a losing battle
to save her own life. |

GETTING THE MOVIE TRAILER OFF OF THE GROUND
After
pushing the “Running On Empty” film project to agents, producers, and
directors for three years as a screenwriter, Nitara Osbourne made the
bold decision in January 2006 to produce the feature film herself with
only a script in hand and the vision to see it realized before a team
was even in place.
At the
time, she came with nearly 10 years of experience as a screenwriter, and
had already associate produced, co-wrote, worked on quite a few film
sets as a script supervisor, and wrote, produced, and directed her own
stage plays. She began to get tired of waiting for someone to say
she and/or her script were good enough to get “Running On Empty”
produced.
After
going through the traditional routes of raising the funds for the film
and not gaining any further ground, she went to her mentor in the film
industry to ask for his solid advice, advice that was backed with over
15 years of experience and over 10 independent films in distribution
worldwide. Nitara sat across from her mentor in his office,
pleading with him for the answer that she needed in order to proceed
forward with her project. He looked her dead in the eyes and said,
“You have to prove to the world that you can do this. People don’t
believe you right now. Show them that you can do this.” It
was that day in early July 2006 that Nitara began putting together the
necessary components for filming the trailer for the feature film
“Running On Empty.” After reviewing 1000 headshots and resumes,
she casted the principal roles for the film by the end of August 2006.
A great cast was then born, and the trailer was filmed in September
2006.
The
theatrical trailer and the television trailer (teaser) went on to win
two (2) 2007 Telly® Awards; a bronze for the teaser and a silver for the
theatrical trailer. The team wrapped production of the full
feature on December 17, 2007. To know that
great victories can be achieved simply because someone has a vision to
see them through, is absolutely inspiring to all visionaries.
INSPIRED BY TRUE EVENTS
We
filmed our full feature within 21 days, a miracle in and of itself.
And although we had obstacles that came up daily, we persisted through
them and finished. And, yes, Running On Empty is based on a series
of true events, but to learn more, you have to watch the movie… |
